grief

my heart is a well so deep
that all light has fled
with darkness that ricochets off brittle hollow walls
moonless
sightless
colourless
devoid of the sacred strands
that bind one heart to others
no fingers entwined
like limbs amidst crumpled sweat-filled linen
no strong arms to embrace
this sobbing cowering beast that i've become

please
let me face cannons tanks rifles swords
before i lose another
love
dropped so casually
like a coin onto a pavement into a sewer
gone
gone
gone forever

- Bernedette Muthien (15 september 2011), for dottie & yvonne jnr
